BMW promotes company veteran to head purchasing

BMW company veteran Joachim Post will head the automaker’s purchasing and supplier network division.

Post, 50, will take up the position on Jan 1, succeeding Andreas Wendt, 63, BMW said in a statement on Wednesday.

Post, who has a doctorate in mechanical engineering, has been with BMW Group since 2002. He is currently head of the automaker’s midsize product line.

Post was previously responsible for the BMW’s vehicle strategy and head of various BMW model lines where he played a key role in pushing ahead with the electrification of the automaker’s vehicle fleet.

Wendt has led BMW’s purchasing division since 2018 when he replaced Markus Duesmann, who quit the automaker to join Volkswagen Group. Duesmann is Audi CEO.

During his career with BMW, Wendt was head of the automaker’s Bavarian plants in Dingolfing and Regensburg. While he was head of Dingolfing, Wendt was named an Automotive News Europe Eurostar.

BMW Chairman Norbert Reithofer praised Wendt for steering the automaker “successfully through the height of the chip shortage.”
